VLIE is a photo series that substantiates a segment of June spent on the island of Vlieland situated to the north of the Dutch mainland. Pristine dunes and dreamlike colours envelop the island, while the fairytale town to its east anchors people among meandering cycle routes.
VLIE depicts a direct yet beautiful approach to moving on, highlighting the stirring solace offered by light and water in nature. Vlieland was chosen as a destination due to particular Dutch influences accumulated through chance encounters and intentional associations. The photographs are the visual outcome of the internal journey taken on Vlieland, consciously choosing to be present in a place where there are painful but beautiful reminders of a past. This determined persisting in a new yet known place opens up wonders in the form of photographs and contributes to a newfound understanding of discovery and acceptance.
VLIE is currently being exhibited online at the Brighton Photo Fringe 2024.
